If you’re considering a move to the Lafayette, Indiana area, you’re probably wondering which schools are nearby. Use this guide to research school information for children at Romney Meadows. Residents will be a part of the Tippecanoe School District.
Tippecanoe School Corporation
The Tippecanoe School Corporation (TSC) is the managing entity of 20 schools with over 12,000 students surrounding Lafayette and West Lafayette. Children that live at Romney Meadows will attend schools within this district. The schools they attend are Mayflower Mill Elementary School, Southwestern Middle School, and McCutcheon High School.
TSC implemented a 1 to 1 initiative. The point of the initiative is to replicate the experience a student would find in a one-on-one learning environment, through the use of technology. This is done by providing each student with various use of different technologies including laptops.
Mayflower Mill Elementary School is a small elementary school located about 3.5 miles from Romney Meadows. The school is considered to be one of the top educational facilities in the area. In 2016, Mayflower Mill teacher Gina Boyd was awarded for excellence in after-school teaching workshops by the Purdue Center for Economic Education. Boyd led workshops for other teachers and school faculty about properly implementing economic education into their schools.
Southwestern Middle School is a grade 6-8 school in Shadeland, southwest of Lafayette. It is located approximately 8.5 miles from the Romney Meadows community.
The school re-opened its doors in 2015 nearly two years after a tornado caused severe damage to the building.
McCutcheon High School, home to approximately 1,700 students, was established in 1972 when Southwestern High School and Wainwright High School merged. The school is named after John T. McCutcheon, a political cartoonist and Lafayette native. The school is located approximately three miles from Romney Meadows. Famous McCutcheon alumnus include Major League Baseball pitcher Clayton Richard, and singer Shannon Hoon of the band Blind Melon.
In athletics, McCutcheon’s mascot is a Maverick. They compete in the North Central Athletic Conference. McCutcheon has won three state championships, including two in baseball and 1 in softball.
