Security Cameras at Romney Meadows Add Another Dimension to Security

“Unsafe!” “This place is horrible.” “DO NOT MOVE HERE.” “If I could give lower than 1 star, I would.” These are the reviews that pop up when you search Romney Meadow’s former name, Claystone at the Crossing. There are no excuses as to why the property got out of shape but there was no denying that changes needed to be made. When the property changed hands in 2015, changing this perception of the community was a high priority for new management.

The new owners of Claystone at the Crossing don’t want the property to be looked at as an undesirable place to live. They want it to live up to its potential as a vibrant housing community in the thriving city of Lafayette. Most importantly, they want Romney Meadows to become a safe place to live for the 300+ families that live there. In the past, Claystone at the Crossing was considered to be a high-risk area of Lafayette for crime. The physical dynamics of the property made it susceptible to crime from individuals all over the city. That made improving property security the highest priority, not only for the new owners, but also for area law enforcement, for the sake of the residents.

There were a few things that made Claystone susceptible for crime. The two biggest concerns were lack of proper outdoor lighting and lack of security cameras. Management has addressed these issues by making them some of the first changes to the property.

Thanks to recent renovations, there are now high-tech security cameras at Romney Meadows. These cameras feed directly to the Lafayette Police Department. This makes monitoring crime more effective than ever for management and law enforcement. The hopes are that the implementation of cameras, increased parking lot lighting, and regular police patrols will decrease the crime rate enough that the community will no longer be “at-risk,” or a place that attracts crime.

Security cameras at Romney Meadows add another dimension of security to the property that didn’t previously exist. There are two aspects to the theory behind this type of security. One is instilling apprehension in criminals so that violence or drug-related incidents never occur, and the other is the ability to pursue criminals by capturing video footage.

By implementing increased security with surveillance cameras, the community has taken a huge step to becoming a safe and suitable community for the hundreds of families that live there. The cameras are just one more example of how Romney Meadows has become the affordable housing community of choice in Lafayette, Indiana.
